Young adults and their passion for thriller books

The sale of thriller books has escalated this year, along with novels, at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

On Sunday, the twelfth day of the fair, it was seen the young generation was the main audience for these mystery books.

Publishers and sellers reported that a significant portion of the visitors and readers at the book fair is the young generation. This demographic also has a high number of buyers.

While youngsters were purchasing novels and story books, thriller books topped their list of preferences.

According to the sellers, the thrill of mystery and the desire to solve it is what draws the young generation towards the thriller genre. However, they also mentioned that the interest in these books was not limited to the young, as middle-aged readers were also drawn to thrillers.

Tapan, the salesman of the “Student Wage” stall, said: Novels are selling well here. But thrillers are also being sold along with novels. And the readers of thrillers are mainly young people.”

“The choice of thriller books by these readers is based on the author and subject matter.

Some prefer army adventures, some are intrigued by uncovering mysteries, and others enjoy the challenge of solving puzzles behind serial killers,” Tapan said.

Another salesman from Nalonda Prokashoni said the young generation is mostly interested in thriller books. “It's their age that makes the genre more interesting to them.”

“Those who like army mysteries come and look for Ariful Islam's thrillers, while some look for Robin Zaman Khan's thrillers,” he added.

Besides, Abdus Salam, manager of Sheba Prokashoni, said: "Our publication is mainly thriller book based. Readers of all ages come here and buy books. But the young readers visit the stall the most. Thrillers are highly popular among the young demographic.”

Sajid Nasim, a student of Notre Dame College in the capital, visited various stalls at the fair and bought seven books. Out of which six books are thrillers.

Nasim said: “I like to read books, except for textbooks. I started my book-reading journey with storybooks, and with time I started loving thrillers. Now, this is my first choice. Thriller has everything I want, including action, mystery, suspense, dark comedy, and more.”
