Amar Ekushey Book Fair is a gathering of literary enthusiasts; an event where writers and publishers meet to sell their books.
The more crowd there is, the more books will be sold. Hence, booksellers, publishers, and authors eagerly wait for the weekends to come, as people prefer to visit the fair during their holidays.
However, there is a group of readers who prefer to visit the fair on weekdays when the fair is relatively less crowded. Their aim is to purchase books in a calm environment.
On Monday, the sixth day of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, some readers shared that many prefer to steer clear of large crowds and do not enjoy going to packed places.
They prefer visiting the fair on days with fewer people and noted that there are advantages in doing so, such are roaming around the fair without hesitation.
Additionally, they can purchase their desired books more quickly on less busy days.
Sajeda Naznin, a visitor from the capital's Badda area, said: “I prefer avoiding the crowd. Hence I like to visit the book fair on the days when there are fewer people.”
“Not just me, there are many people like me who like to avoid crowds. You'll notice they only come to the book fair on relatively empty days,” she added.
Meanwhile, another visitor from the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka, Hamid Hasan, said: “I like visiting the fair on less crowded days. There are many benefits of visiting the fair on days like this. For example, one can roam freely and cover the whole fair area without any problem.”
In this regard, several sellers from different stalls said that there are more buyers than visitors on free days.
Amit Hasan, a salesman of Grontho Kutir Publications' stall, said that sales are high during holidays. “There are more visitors these days as well. Readers usually visit the fair more on free days.”
