Large crowds gather for weekend metro rail trips

Since the inauguration, Dhaka Metro Rail was initially thronged with curious passengers, but there was a shortage of passengers for the last few days.

However, many are thronging the stations to enjoy the metro rail ride on the holiday.

Passengers began arriving at the Agargaon Metro Rail station from 8am on Friday and the crowd increased as the afternoon progressed.

The passengers said that they have come from different areas of Dhaka and outside Dhaka to experience riding the metro rail for the first time.

Sultan Mahmood, a resident of Kurmitola, came to Agargaon railway station with his family to experience riding the metro rail for the first time.

Referring to travel by metro rail as a dream journey, he said: “Metro rail has been launched for the first time in Bangladesh. We all came together today at the request of family members. We came on time today as there was a lot of crowd in the beginning.”

Hasibur Rahman came to the capital's Farmgate on Thursday from Kuakata and stayed at his relative's home to ride the metro rail. He came to the passenger line of Agargaon station along with his family at about 9am.

He said: “We live outside Dhaka. As a result, there will be no opportunity to ride the metro all the time. I came to Dhaka to visit a relative's house. I thought I would take this opportunity to visit the metro rail.”

Homemaker Chameli Akhtar, a resident of Pirerbag in the capital, was waiting to board the metro rail since its inauguration. She said that everyone in the house was talking about the metro rail. “I also wanted to see how it feels to ride this train, so everyone from home came today (Friday).”

Writer Anisul Haque expressed his satisfaction after visiting the Dhaka Metro Rail for the first time and said that everything was wonderful. “Now we have two challenges to keep the metro rail system beautiful. Metro rail services should be regular and passengers should be more aware of their use.”

Around the metro rail platform, passengers were buying tickets both by machine and by hand. However, one of the ticket machines in the C block of the station was broken. Yet, there was no complaints from the passengers.
