How to buy a metro rail ticket

The much-awaited first metro rail in Bangladesh will soon be opened to the public on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the project, and she will be the first person to ride the metro rail by purchasing a ticket.

After the primer leaves the site, authorities will then start selling tickets to the public.

As this is the first phase, a limited number of trains will operate in the morning and afternoon.

Here is how one can get tickets and rapid pass for metro rail:

Ticketing system

DMTCL Managing Director (MD) MAN Siddique told Bangla Tribune that from December 29, rapid passes and general tickets can be collected from the counters.

“A rapid pass will be issued for 10 years. People will have to apply online for a rapid pass,” he added.

There are two systems for ticketing for passengers who want to travel through metro rail in Dhaka -- automated and manual.

In the automated system, passengers can get their tickets by themselves but one passenger will be allowed to get a maximum of five tickets at a time.

The manual system follows the traditional method of buying tickets from the counter by paying cash, reports UNB.

All passengers will have to enter through the gate using a smart pass card after getting a ticket and will be able to use escalators to go to the platform on the third floor.

Fares

The minimum fare for Dhaka metro rail was fixed at Tk20 and the maximum fare for travelling from Uttara to Motijheel at Tk100.

In the first phase, the fare from Uttara station to Agargaon station will be Tk60. The fare from Uttara (North) to Uttara (Central) and Uttara-South Station will be Tk20.

Besides, from the first station Uttara North to Pallabi and Mirpur-11 stations, the fare will be Tk30, the fare till Mirpur 10 and Kazipara stations will be Tk40 and till Shewrapara station it will be Tk50.
