A case has been filed against a couple from Dhaka's Banani area for torturing their househelp.
Banani police station SI Aziz filed the case against Samina Alam, and her husband Kamruzzaman on Friday.
On Tuesday, a neighbour from the building called the police and informed them that they heard screaming from Samina and Kamruzzaman's flat in Banani 23.
Based on the information, a team of police went there at around 2pm and saw the househelp Tania Begum's mouth was scotch taped.
Her hair and eyebrows were cut, and her face was swollen from beating. Besides that, her body had several injury marks, reports Bangla Tribune.
Samia was detained from the spot, but as Tania refused to file a case against them, she was released.
Shafiqur Rahman, the brother of Tania, said: "Those who tortured my sister are influential people. It is difficult to fight against them by filing a case. Besides, we are not able to bear the cost.”
However, he said, if they get support from the state or any organization, he will take legal action against the couple.
