Dhaka residents start returning after 3-day holiday

Following a three-day holiday, vacationers have started to return to Dhaka to get back to their usual life.

Due to the increasing number of people returning to Dhaka, a long tailback of vehicles was created in front of the toll plaza at Jazira point of Padma Bridge on Sunday night.

Passengers and drivers of the bus said that already a two kilometer long tailback formed.

Many Dhaka-bound passengers are waiting for a long time to cross the bridge due to this.

As two of the six booths at the toll plaza at the Jazira end were closed, causing the huge traffic.

Padma Bridge South Police Station ASI Firoz Al Mamun said: "People are returning to work after three days of vacation. Besides, toll collection is open through four of the six toll booths. As a result, the traffic congestion has occurred.”

Padma Bridge authority Additional Director Amirul Haider Chowdhury said: “The situation was normal from afternoon to evening. We have provided two workers at the toll booth. The situation will be normal if the vehicle pressure is reduced during the night.”
