Cocktail explosion in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan office

A cocktail went off in front of the main opposition BNP's central office in the capital's Naya Paltan on Saturday evening.

The incident took place at around 6pm in an empty space on a road in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan.

However, no one could confirm who was behind the explosion.

Tariqul Islam, a central leader in the BNP office, said: “I heard that a cocktail explosion took place on a street near the BNP office.”

Paltan police station Inspector (Investigation) Md Sentu Mia said: “We heard that there was a cocktail explosion in front of the BNP office in Naya Paltan in the evening. However, no clues have been found so far.”

Some BNP activists speculated that someone may have thrown the cocktail from a moving car.

Meanwhile, Paltan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salahuddin Mia told UNB that some five to six people have been detained from the spot over the incident for questioning.

Additional police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation, reports UNB.
