Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken an initiative to finally hand over the birth registration services to ward councilor's office to reduce public suffering and simplify the process.
A proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives for final approval in this connection.
In the 18th corporation meeting held at the head office of DNCC on Sunday, DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam disclosed the information.
If the final approval is granted, the local councilor will serve as the registrar in this process, and in the event of birth registration, the role of assistant registrar will be served by the councilor's office secretary.
With this move, nobody will have to make a lengthy trip to the regional office, said the DNCC mayor.
