Students of Viqarunnisa Noon School on Tuesday ended their blockade after the authorities assured them of meeting their demand.
Earlier in the day, the students blocked Dhaka’s Mirpur Road in Dhanmondi to press home their demand of a permanent campus.
They took out a procession from the school's Dhanmondi branch at around noon and blocked the road in front of Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital, halting traffic on the busy road and leading to huge gridlocks.
They alleged that the school authorities are trying to close the campus without any notice, leaving the educational lives of 1,900 students uncertain.
The school authorities however denied vehemently that such a move was being implemented, nor was any decision to this effect taken.
At around 4pm, the principal of the school came to the spot and said that there was no discussion on shutting down the Dhanmondi campus.
She also said that efforts continue to make the campus permanent.
