Students and guardians of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College took to the street on Tuesday demanding a permanent campus at the location amid rumoured plans to close down the Dhanmondi branch of the institution.
At first, the students and guardians formed a human chain in front of the institution in the morning. However, after 12:30pm, they blocked the Mirpur Road in Dhanmondi-7 by sitting on the streets, disrupting traffic in the area.
Dhaka TribuneSharif Md Farukuzzaman, senior assistant police commissioner of New Market area, confirmed the news.
“Guardians also joined the students in this protest. They demanded a permanent campus for Viqarunnisa Noon School and College at Dhanmondi,” he said.
“We have requested the students to empty the roads. The principal of the school was also informed. We are waiting for the principal to come,” he added.
Dhaka TribuneAdditional police have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident, police surveillance has also been increased, said this senior police officer.
