Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police and elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted an operation in Dhaka College campus on Sunday evening to nab the identified students responsible for the death of delivery person Nahid Hossain on April 19.
Zahir Hasan Jewel was detained for questioning and two mobile sets were seized during the raid, according to witnesses.
Jewel was a member of the now-defunct convening committee of Dhaka College unit Chhatra League and a student of the Department of Accounting of the college.
He was detained from Room No 101 of the International Hall of the college. Emon, who was identified from a video hacking Nahid on the footpath, lived in that room. He has been hiding since the incident.
Dormitory Superintendent and lecturer of the Department of Islamic History and Culture Kamruzzaman said: “I heard that DB and RAB members came to the dormitory. Mobile phones have been seized. However, I do not know whether any student has been detained.”

Meanwhile, detectives on Sunday said that they had detained two students for questioning. Details about their identity could not be known immediately.
Sources said the duo were among the four whose photos appeared on social media and in newspapers.
Law enforcers on Sunday also recognized Emon from the viral video of hacking Nahid in front of Nurjahan Super Market around 12:45pm on that day. He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the night.
Emon is a second-year student of the Department of Bangla, reports Bangla Tribune.
In a video widely circulated on social media and in photos, Emon was seen brutally hacking a lifeless Nahid on his back with a long dagger, used by butchers to slaughter cattle.

At one point, another student, who had also tortured Nahid, went close to Emon and stopped him.
Police have found similarities between Emon and the young man in the video.
The detectives on Friday detained BNP leader Moqbul Hossain from his Dhanmondi residence and later showed him arrested in a case filed for sabotage, violence and obstructing police from performing duties.
He was later placed on three-day police remand. At least two dozen BNP leaders and activists have been named in the case.
The BNP has condemned the arrest and said that the government was trying to save its men by implicating the opposition leaders and activists in “false cases”.
