Detectives have detained nine people in connection with the attack on members of Dakshinkhan police station in the capital.
The Mirpur Division (detective) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) captured them during a drive in Nalbhog of Uttara on Sunday night.
The detainees were identified as Lashkar Ali, Nurul Islam, Jahangir Alam, Zahirul Islam, Kamrul Islam, Nazrul Islam, Jhinuk, Mosammot Khushi and Champa, reports Bangla Tribune.
Earlier, a team of Dakshinkhan police detained Kamrul and Zahirul with cannabis while conducting a search operation in the area adjacent to Kotbari Railgate check-post, Additional Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam said.
“Later, 30-40 unidentified persons attacked the police by randomly throwing brickbats and stones, and snatched the detainees along with the handcuffs. Five members of the expedition, including an ASI, were seriously injured in the ambush,” he added.
A case was registered with Dakshinkhan police station against 16 people and several unidentified others in this regard.
According to police, the accused are members of an organized drug trafficking ring, engaged in drug peddling for a long time.
