A group of city dwellers on Sunday organized a rally in front of the Wasa Bhaban at Karwan Bazar of the capital demanding the resignation of its Managing Director Taqsem A Khan.
Under the banner of “Bangladesh Sadharon Nagorik Samaj”, they demanded Taqsem’s resignation as Wasa failed to provide water of acceptable quality at low cost.
They alleged that despite supplying low quality water, Wasa has proposed a 20% hike in water tariff.
They deplored that Wasa had increased water tariff twice during the Covid-19 pandemic, and termed it an “inhumane decision”.
The participants said the city residents cannot bear the cost of system loss, misuse of water, corruption, and asked Wasa authorities to bring changes in its high-ups, making it accountable and more transparent.
