Student dies after falling from university building in Dhaka

A student of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on Thursday reportedly took his own life after falling from the university building on Dhaka's Green Road.

The deceased was identified as Imam Hossain, 23, a third-year student of Computer Science and Engineering.

According to university employees, Imam reached the university at 7:30am in the morning as he had an exam at 10am. A few moments later, they found that Imam fell down from the roof of the building.

The authorities rushed him to a local hospital in a critical condition. As his condition deteriorated further, Imam was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctor pronounced him dead around 9:30am

Prof Nadeem Ahmed of Computer Science and Engineering said Imam appeared a little distracted for some time and did not talk to anyone.

He suspected that Imam may have been suffering from depression. “Details will be known once we talk to his family and relatives,” he added.

Hailing from Bhola, Imam used to stay in a mess with other students in the East Rajabazar area.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. The matter was informed to local police, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police outpost said.
