A decision on whether a police station would be constructed at Tetultala playground in Dhaka’s Kalabagan will be taken after holding discussions with all stakeholders, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said.
His remarks came on Monday while speaking to the media after an event at the Tejgaon Government Science College in Dhaka.

“When we were young, we used to play in fields, and I feel sorry that this generation does not have the opportunity to do so. We do not have enough space in the city, and the reason is urbanization,” he said.
Describing law enforcement agencies as an integral part of society, the minister said: “The project [for a permanent building for] Kalabagan police station has been ongoing for many years. The police station now operates from a rented building.”

“I asked him to find an alternative spot for the playground. We will discuss this further and decide what can be done.”
When asked about police detaining Syeda Ratna and her teenage son, the minister said: “As far as I have heard, police tried to stop them several times when she was live streaming on Facebook. As she did not listen to them, officers took her to the station for interrogation.”

Meanwhile, rights activists on Monday condemned the detention of the mother and son for campaigning against the construction of a police station without any specific complaint.
Detention without a specific complaint is a violation of the Constitution, they said.
