Man arrested in Dhaka over Facebook posts against Pohela Boishakh celebrations

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a man on charges of posting inciting and extremist content against Pohela Boishakh celebrations.

Rasel Sarder Raj, 21, was arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the DMP from Dhaka's Bailey Road area on Tuesday, CTTC officials told Bangla Tribune.

Using a Facebook account named "Jihader Talwar", a group of people, including Raj, had been disseminating extremist content and provocative lies about important establishments of Bangladesh, Bangali culture and Pohela Boishakh, they added.

Raj also made posts expressing his wish to join the extremist group "Ghazwatul Hind" and invited others to join, according to the CTTC.
