Police recovered the dead body of a newborn baby from a pile of garbage near the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Friday night.
The body of the one-day-old baby was later sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Pedestrians had found the body wrapped in a bag and informed the police, SI Rashedul Islam of Shahbagh police station said.
Police were investigating the matter, he added.
