Authorities satisfied with quality of Dhaka Bypass Expressway project

The Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) has expressed satisfaction over the quality of construction of the ongoing 48km-long Dhaka Bypass Expressway project.

Sultana Afroz, secretary and chief executive officer of the PPPA, made the remark on Sunday while inspecting the progress of the upgradation of the Dhaka Bypass Road into a four-lane access-control expressway.

In a media statement, Sultana hoped that the standard of the project would be maintained in the future.

She and her colleagues visited several sites of the project, including the construction of the Kanchan Bridge and other road development works.

She assured that the PPPA was implementing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision towards national development.

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion inside Dhaka city and establish road connectivity with safe and modern facilities, which will play a significant role in increasing the overall trade and commerce of the country.

The Consortium Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited is carrying out relevant works including the construction works after overcoming the initial hurdles of the pandemic. The project is expected to be completed by 2024.

On June 22, Tk84.64 crore revised budget for this project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec). The amount will be spent mainly on land acquisition, rehabilitation, and consultancy.

The project, built entirely with private funding, will be managed and operated by a private partner under a 25-year contract.

During the visit, Abul Bashar, director general of PPPA; Anwar Hossain, director of PPPA; the project director; and representatives of the Roads and Highways Department and private partners were present among other high officials.
