Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and edotco Bangladesh, an integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company, signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to set up smart poles in the dense urban areas of the city corporation, in a bid to turn Dhaka into a smart city.
The public-private partnership will ensure that citizens have access to improved connectivity within Dhaka, according to a press release.
Under the project, features like free Wi-Fi, digitalized waste management system through smart bins and real-time air quality monitoring will be provided at key locations.
The integrated solution will also have provisions for security surveillance, energy-saving LED light and digital signage.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said: “We are committed to ensuring an improved city experience to our citizens. By turning Dhaka into a smart city through such initiatives, we will move one step closer to achieving the Digital Bangladesh vision.
“Fundamentally, a consolidated and standardized mobile network structure is an inseparable component of a smart city. With that notion, we are excited to work with edotco to ensure that our citizens get the most accessible connectivity anytime, anywhere.”
Meanwhile, edotco Bangladesh Managing Director Ricky Steyn said: “Our partnership with DNCC is testament to our commitment of partnering for developing an enhanced, sustainable telecommunications landscape that fits in with urban planning aesthetics.”
“We aspire to not only create a city that is seamlessly connected but also one that will give city dwellers a feeling of living in a city that is well connected, safe and secure,” he added.
