The first coach of Dhaka metro rail has been placed on the railway track in the unloading area of the jetty adjacent to the Uttara Diabari depot.
The coach was unloaded from the jetty of the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) near Diabari on the Turag River at around 12:03pm on Thursday, and was then placed on the track, reports Bangla Tribune.
One by one, the other coaches would be placed on the track as well, an official from the DMTCL authorities confirmed the matter.
Earlier on Wednesday at 3pm, the barge carrying the six coaches of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train, more commonly known as metro rail, reached the jetty of the DMTCL at Diabari, Uttara, via the Turag River.
In conversation with Gopalganj Road Zone, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) officials in a video conference from his residence in the morning, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the first six-coach set for the metrorail arrived at the newly constructed jetty adjacent to the depot.
He added that the procedure to bring the metro train coach from the barge to the depot started on Thursday morning. The metro train set will arrive at the depot by Friday.
The coaches are being manufactured by the Kawasaki-Mitsubishi Consortium Company Limited of Japan. They are being imported in Bangladesh by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
