4 injured as Awami League wings clash in Tikatuli

At least four ruling party men were injured in a clash between local Awami League and Jubo League groups on Sunday, reportedly over extortion in the capital.

The incident occurred in Dhaka’s Tikatuli area when a group of Jubo League men of Ward No 39 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) allegedly attacked the same ward’s Awami League activists for protesting extortion.

The injured – Ahsan Habib Jewel, 38, Nazmul Hasan Rasel, 40, Salauddin Rasel, 40, and Asaduzzaman Lipon, 45 – are currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Habib, while talking to reporters, said: “Ward 39 Jubo League General Secretary John along with 20-25 of his men attacked us around 8:30pm on Sunday night for protesting extortion in the area.”

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Ward No 39 Councillor Rokon Uddin Ahmed said: “Those injured in the attack are my men. The local extortionists carried out the attack on them.”
