Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Monirul Islam on Sunday urged all political parties of the country to not hold any programs from March 17 to 26 to ease the movement of VIPs during the period.
Monirul, chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the DMP, was speaking at a press conference at the DMP headquarters, reports Bangla Tribune.
The conference was organized to discuss security issues on the occasion of the arrival of the heads of state and government of different countries to observe Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence.

“If any political party fails to comply with the request, we will consider them as traitors,” Monirul said.

He continued: “Police will take strict legal action against people who are or will be holding anti-Modi rallies ahead of the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh.”
Cautioning that the city dwellers may have to suffer a little due to VIP movements, the CTTC boss urged people to leave their homes earlier than they would normally do to reach their destinations in a timely manner.
“There may be some traffic congestions during the event from March 17 to 26. I am requesting you to leave for office or examination earlier than usual. The people have to sacrifice this much considering the honour of the country,” he remarked.
