A 14-year-old teenager was stabbed to death allegedly by his knife-wielding friends in Dhaka's Banani area on Wednesday evening.
The deceased is Shakil Gazi, who lived in Korail slum and was a third-grader at a local school, according to his family and police.
His father Jasim Gazi said Shakil left home with some of his friends around 7:30pm.
He said: “They stabbed him and left him severely injured in front of Star Kabab [a local eatery nearby the slum].”
Some pedestrians found Shakil lying on the ground and rushed him to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead, added the father.
Jasim, who works at a salon, said he had no idea why Shakil was murdered.
Banani police station Sub-Inspector Yasin Hossain said the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
A case was later filed over the murder.
