Passengers 'walk away' from accident-wrecked car on Airport Road

Four unidentified people reportedly walked away from a vehicle accident on Dhaka's Airport Road on Eid day, abandoning a rolled-over car. As of Tuesday the car, a Toyota Premio, was being held by the Airport Police Station and no one had contacted the station to claim it. The station's Officer-in-Charge Nure Azam Mia told the Dhaka Tribune that the accident took place around 4pm Monday on Airport Road opposite the Le Meridien Hotel. Photos posted by one eyewitness on Facebook show that the car was completely upturned on the side of the road. OC Nure Azam said according to eyewitnesses, the passengers of the car had gotten out of the wrecked car and walked away from the scene, seemingly unharmed. Photo collected from Facebook Investigation Officer Sukanta Saha said the station was notified by traffic police. “When we reached the spot, the passengers of the car were gone and no one else reported any injury,” he said. Police still cannot find the owner of the car (licence plate number Dhaka Metro GA-274792), but the officer said the station would contact the road transport authority after the Eid holiday to find out who owns it. Sukanta said there were some construction materials lying on the side of the road at the spot and it was being suspected that the car may have hit a pile of rods at high speed and rolled over.
