In a rare move, a department at Dhaka University wants to issue admit cards now for an exam which took place earlier.
With the help of teachers in the Organization Strategy and Leadership (OSL) department of Dhaka University (DU), two MPhil students took part in the examination in December 2019 without admit cards.
The department is now willing to provide the admit cards to the duo for the convenience of publishing their results. The department approached the Deans' committee on Thursday in this regard.
Prof Altaf Jalil, chairman of OSL, approached the committee via Prof Dr Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, acting Dean of the Business Faculty and also former Chairman of the OSL department, said Deans' committee sources.
In agenda no 35 of the meeting, it was stated that the issue of providing admit cards now can be discussed in the Deans' committee meeting, which was addressed by Prof Jalil.
However, the university authorities did not allow this as it was against academic norms.
The OSL had taken the exams of the two evening MBA course students in December 2019.
University high officials consider the practice of taking exams without issuing admit cards to be against academic norms.
Therefore, the authorities have directed looking into how the examinations were taken without the admit cards.
Despite several attempts, the acting Dean of the Business Faculty, Prof Moyeen, could not be reached over phone.
"Steps will be taken in line with the rules of the university. We will not compromise with the quality of education," said DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman.
Hence, there was no opportunity to go beyond the rules, he remarked.
