Sramik League President Fazlul Huq passes away

Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League President and freedom fighter Fazlul Huq Montu has passed away. He was 71.

He took his last breath at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Dhaka at around 4am on Friday, BSS reports.

The Sramik League president’s namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held after the Jumma prayers on Friday, at Baitul Mokkaram National Mosque.

Later he will be buried at the Rayerbazar graveyard.

Fazlul left behind his wife, son, daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

Prime Minister and Awami League Sheikh Hasina has expressed profound grief over the freedom fighter’s passing.

“The contribution of Fazlul Haque Montu to the Liberation War and establishing the rights of the labourers will be remembered," the prime minister said in a condolence message. 

She prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, BSS reports.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali and State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira also also expressed grief and sadness over Fazlul’s death, among others.
