Two separate cases have been filed against Md Ziaur Rahman, a professor at the Department of Criminology of Dhaka University (DU), for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
Advocate Imrul Hasan, a member of the Dhaka Bar Association, and Md Mahbub Alam, the editor of the monthly Al Baiyinaat and the daily Al Ihsan, filed the two cases under the Digital Security Act with the Cyber Tribunal on Sunday.

After recording the statements of the two complainants, Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Jaglul Hossain of the Cyber Tribunal in Dhaka asked the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police to investigate the two cases and submit a report on November 1.
According to the statements of both cases, on October 22, Prof Ziaur Rahman made some hateful comments against Islam in a television talk show. He was accused of propagating anti-Islamic thoughts in the two cases.
In a talk show called "Uposhonghar" (Conclusion) on DBC News television channel, Prof Ziaur described saying "Assalamu Alaikum" and "Allah Hafez" in pure Arabic pronunciation as disgusting, reports UNB.
On October 22, Supreme Court lawyer Muhammad Sheikh Omar Sharif sent a legal notice to Prof Ziaur on behalf of Md Mahbub Alam. He was asked to withdraw his statement and apologise.
