Man confesses to sexually abusing 4 children

A Dhaka court on Thursday recorded the confessional statement of rickshaw puller Sajal Mollah on sexually abusing four children in Dhaka’s Khilgaon area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua recorded his statement after Sub-Inspector Tanvir Hossain Bhuiyan of Khilgaon police station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Sajal with a plea to record his confessional statement in the case.

After recording the 55-year-old’s statement, the court sent him to jail.

Sub inspector Tahera Begum, general recording officer of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court confirmed the matter with Dhaka Tribune.

She said: “Accused described the incidents before the metropolitan magistrate and acknowledged his involvement.”

Earlier, police arrested Sajal on Wednesday after a case was filed against him under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The children, aged between six and nine, were admitted to One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical tests on Wednesday.

Coordinator of OCC, Dr Bilkis Begum, said the medical tests on the children were completed on Thursday. Primarily, there are signs of sexual violence. Details will be known once the reports are published.

The children’s families said Sajal is their neighbour. His house was empty for a few days as his family went to visit their village home.

When the parents would go out for work, Sajal used that opportunity to lure the children with candy and take them to his place. He abused them several times.

The parents filed the case on Wednesday as soon as they came to know of the incidents.
