A Dhaka Art College student was killed on Monday night after being run over by a covered van in Bhatara's Notun Bazar area in Dhaka.
The accident occurred around 7pm on Monday when the student, identified as Radia Niti, 22, was crossing the road, said Bhatara police station OC Md Moktaruzzaman.
She was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital in critical condition, he said. The duty doctor pronounced her dead around 8pm.
He said they arrested the covered van driver and impounded the vehicle soon after. A case was also filed later over the incident.
Radia’s sister Sadiya Reza Tinni said their family is from Baheratla village in Shibchar, Madaripur, but they live in Notun Bazar Principal Road area. Radia was the eldest among three siblings.
A third-year student at Dhaka Art College in Dhanmondi, Radia recently took a job as a room decorating designer at an office in Paltan, said Sadiya.
Radia was returning home from office on Monday evening when she was hit by the covered van, added the sister.
