Model Loren Mendes, who reportedly committed suicide recently over a family altercation, was away from home from Saturday afternoon till dawn on Sunday.
Gulshan police station Inspector (Investigation) Aminul Islam, the investigation officer (IO) of the unnatural death (UD) case filed by the model’s parents, told Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
The autopsy of the deceased was completed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue and the body has been handed over to the family, he added.
“We have interrogated Loren’s parents regarding the incident,” said Aminul Islam.
Quoting her parents, police said that Loren went out of home on Saturday afternoon without telling her parents. She stayed out the whole night and did not inform her parents of her being late.
The model returned home at around 5:30am on Sunday and got into a family quarrel over her staying out all night without informing anyone.
When her parents questioned her why she had been out all night and wanted to know about her whereabouts, Loren replied that she had been with her friends and that she would go out again.
At one point of the arguments, she went into her bedroom and switched off the lights.
Later, at around 7:30am, her father found her hanging from the ceiling fan.
However, according to police, Loren’s family does not suspect any of her friends for the incident.
Family members of the model told the media that she often used to leave home without informing anyone.
Her family always tried to restrain her from indulging in such behaviour, which led to quarrels between Loren and her parents.
But no one could ever imagine that Loren would one day commit suicide, her family members added.
Earlier on Sunday morning, 26-year-old model Loren Mendes allegedly committed suicide in Kalachandpur of Gulshan.
Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, deputy commissioner (DC) of Gulshan division police, said that after getting information from the family, police rushed there to find her body hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom in Kalachandpur at around 7am.
The body was sent to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead and sent her to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
“She might have committed suicide due to an altercation with her parents,'' Sudip Kumar Chakraborty said.
Police sources said Loren's parents did not approve of her love affair. The model had recurring quarrels with them and as a result committed suicide, wrapping a scarf around her neck and hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her room.
