Woman raped by husband’s friend in Dhaka

A woman has been allegedly raped by her husband’s friend in Dhaka’s Rampura area.

The incident took place around 10pm on Saturday.

Police arrested the alleged rapist Mohor Ali following a case filed by the victim on Sunday night. The husband accompanied her during the procedure.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Rampura police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rezaul Karim said the victim and her husband had an altercation around 10pm on Saturday and the husband went out.

Later, Mohor called the woman and said that her husband was at his place, which was adjacent to her house. He asked her to come over so that he could settle the misunderstanding.

When the woman reached his house, she found her husband was not there. Mohor then allegedly raped her, the OC added.

The woman was sent to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday night to run forensic tests.

SI Rezaul said: “The victim didn’t inform her husband about the incident at first. But after seeing a bruise mark on her hand, her husband forced her to tell what had happened to her. The victim then spoke in detail about the incident to her husband.

“The suspect has confessed to his crimes,” he said, adding that the alleged rapist, Mohor, is unemployed and lives at his sister’s place in Dhaka.  He is married and his wife lives in their village home.

“During the incident, Mohor’s sister was in another room of the tin-shed house but was unaware of what her brother was doing,” the SI added.

“Mohor even threatened the victim that he would kill her husband if she told anyone about what happened,” SI Rezaul said.

“Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation,” he added.
