A counterfeit currency factory was busted in Dhaka’s Paltan area on Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has said.
Five people, including one woman, have been arrested for their involvement in the making of the fake notes, DMP DB Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan division) Mashiur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune.
The suspects were identified as Hannan, Kawser, Arif, Ibrahim and Khushi. Tk57 lakh in counterfeit currency and materials to produce about Tk5 crore more of counterfeit money were recovered during the drive.
According to the DC Gulshan division, a team of law enforcement officials conducted the raid at a building in Paltan at around 3pm, after receiving a tip-off. During the raid, they found the counterfeit currency factory and arrested a specialty fabric maker, printer, manager and distributors.

Prior to Eid, they were in hiding outside Dhaka city as they feared that the law enforcement agencies would conduct a raid.
“The counterfeiters set up the large factory in Paltan to do business on a large scale, thinking police would not look for them after Eid,” the DC said.
“Shahin, the financier of this factory and leader of the gang, is accused in multiple cases. We are trying to arrest him,” he added.
Among the suspects who were arrested at the factory, Hannan was responsible for printing, Kawsar made the special paper and Arif was a manager, while Ibrahim and Khushi distributed the counterfeit currency to various places, the DC said.
