Dhaka businessman sues 5 cops over extortion, crossfire threat

A businessman has filed a case against five policemen of Dhaka’s Kotwali police station, including Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman, and one other accusing them of extorting money from him after threatening to put him in “crossfire.”

Clothing trader Md Sohel Mir of South Keraniganj lodged the case in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Noman on Monday.

The other five accused are the station’s Sub-Inspectors (SI) Pabitra Sarkar, 42, and Khalid Sheikh, 45, Assistant SI Shahinur Rahman, 42, Constable Md Mizan, 52, and informant Motaleb.

The court later ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate and submit the report by September 16.

It also asked to assign an assistant superintendent of police to lead the investigation.
