Man confesses to murder of businessman in Bashundhara

Police on Saturday arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the murder of real estate developer Abul Khayer, 50, in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Area (R/A).

The suspect, Milon, is the brother-in-law of the deceased and has confessed to his crimes, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan division) Sudip Kumar Chakraborty to Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “Law enforcement arrested Milon from the Bashundhara R/A on Saturday morning.

“He confessed to his involvement in the murder during primary interrogation. Milon told us that the deceased took Tk8 lakh from him years ago and did not pay him back. Later, on Friday, he had an altercation with Abul Khayer regarding repayment of the loan. This finally resulted in him killing Abul.”

In a press briefing held on Sunday, police said that Khayer and Milon both had been working together in the real estate business for the past 27 years.

However, at one-point Khayer started his own firm named Sajeeb Builders Limited and Milon started working under him as head of the construction team.

Milon said the police that Khayer was depriving him of his rightful payments for years and they had a brawl about it which led to the killing.

Khayer went out from his residence on Thursday evening after receiving a phone call and was missing since then.

On Friday, 50-year-old Abul was found dead on the top floor of an under-construction building in the capital’s Bashundhara R/A.
