South Korean has provided Dhaka’s Mugda Medical College and General Hospital with food packages and medical supplies to help battle the ongoing Covid-19 crisis in Bangladesh.
As many as 1,800 emergency food and hygiene packages and 3,000 personal protective equipment (PPEs) and medical supplies were donated at the hospital by the South Korean government with the help of Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica).
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bangladesh published a Facebook post in this regard from their page on Monday.
A ceremony to handover the items was held at the HR Bhaban in Kakrail.
Among others, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, Lee Jang-keun, ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, Young-Ah Doh, country director of KOICA in Bangladesh, Mohammod Abdul Hai, director of administration, education and training at the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery were present during the event.
The emergency food and sanitary goods include rice, lentil, semolina, soybean oil, sugar, salt, milk powder, antiseptic soaps, hand sanitizers, face masks, laundry soaps and toothpaste.
These are aimed to assist the marginalized households of Dhaka’s Mudga community whose livelihoods have been severely interrupted by coronavirus, read the post.
The 3,000 PPEs and medical supplies are expected to enhance the working conditions of the heroic nurses, who have emerged as frontline combatants in the fight against Covid-19 while risking their own lives, added the post.
This contribution also falls under the follow-up support of Koica’s project titled “Establishment of the National Institute of Advanced Practice Nurses in Bangladesh (NIANER)” -- Bangladesh’s first-ever postgraduate nursing education institution with grant aid $13.75 million from 2013 to 2019, read the post.
Standing by the vulnerable community of Mugda and its nurses to further strengthen its capacity in battling Covid-19, the Korean Government through Koica, will continue its support to NIANER for its improved sustainability as the country’s only higher nursing education, added the post.
As a government aid agency of the Republic of Korea under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Koica implements Korea's grant aid and technical cooperation supporting socio-economic development, furthered the Facebook post.
