2 drug dealers accused in several cases killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

Two drug dealers have been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhaka.

The incident occurred in the Diabari neighbourhood of Uttara around 2:30am on Friday.

The deceased are Ibrahim Khalil, 50, and his associate Omar Faruk, 38.

RAB claimed both of the deceased were notorious drug dealers. At least 15 cases were filed against Ibrahim and 14 against Omar at different police stations.

In primary investigation, RAB also concluded that Ibrahim was a major drug dealer in Dhaka.

RAB-1 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Kamruzzaman said: “Acting on a tipoff, we set up a checkpost in Diabari. We signalled a motorcycle to stop around 2:15am. It did not stop and went past the check-post.

“As we followed the motorcycle, the riders opened fire on us and we had to fire back in self defence.”

The two perpetrators sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead, he added.

A RAB member was also injured in the incident, said the ASP.

RAB also recovered two foreign pistols, four magazines, nine bullets, four cartridges, 3,090 yaba pills, a motorcycle, three mobile phones and Tk10,000 from the spot.
