DB: Dr Sabrina is JKG’s convener, not chairman

Detective Branch (DB) of Police has said they have found documents from JKG Healthcare which showed that Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury was the convener of the organization and not the chairman.

DB Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten said this while speaking to journalists at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Wednesday.

“We did not find any documents which show Sabrina as JKG chairman. But we found documents where it showed her as the convener,” the DB official said.

“We will submit the charge sheet very soon against Sabrina.”

On July 17, A Dhaka court placed Sabrina on a fresh two-day remand in a case filed regarding the Covid-19 test scam.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Masudur Rahman passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Liakat Ali produced her before the court seeking a five- day of fresh remand.

On July 13, another Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman granted a three- day remand to the police to interrogate Sabrina in the Covid-19 test scam case.

On July 12, police arrested Sabrina over her suspected involvement in a recently discovered Covid-19 test scam in Dhaka.

Dr Sabrina, also a cardiac surgeon at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), was initially summoned to the DMP Tejgaon Division deputy commissioner’s (DC) office and later shown arrested in the case over the test scam after a brief interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry suspended Dr Sabrina from the NICVD for holding a position in a private organization while being a government employee. An office order was issued following her arrest.

JKG Healthcare is an organization accused in the Covid-19 test scam, where fake reports were given to the patients and actual test samples were thrown out.
