Regent Hospital and JKG Health Care have tarnished Bangladesh’s image in the international arena by committing fraud and issuing fake Covid-19 certificates, speakers have said during a protest.
Members of Safe Food and Consumer Rights Movement (SFCRM) Bangladesh staged the protest against the scams on Monday by forming a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Speaking at the event, the protesters demanded exemplary punishment for those who have tarnished the country’s reputation beyond borders with their fraudulent activities, according to a press statement.
The speakers also asked the authorities concerned to provide the victims of these scams with the opportunity to get tested again, along with an appropriate amount of compensation for their sufferings.
Saiful Haque, secretary general of Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party (Revolutionary Workers' Party of Bangladesh), said the people of Bangladesh had the right to know who aided Regent Hospital owner Md Shahed Shahed and JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, who were so desperate for amassing illegal wealth that they ignored the sufferings of the common people.
Saiful demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the scammers. “Their wrongdoings have disgraced Bangladesh on the world stage. This will also affect our migrant workers,” he added.
SFCRM Chief Executive Kamruzzaman Bablu presided over the program, while its Organization Secretary Asaduzzaman Azam moderated it.
Among others, National Awami Party Secretary General Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, SFCRM Vice-President Md Shahidul Islam, Treasurer Noman Mosharef, Program Co-coordinator Md Samsul Arefin, Publicity Secretary Mahmudur Rahman Khan Bappi, Office Secretary Abdul Aziz, and Social Welfare Secretary Imam Hasan also took part in the event.
