The police probe committee formed to investigate the United Hospital fire incident has submitted its report, mentioning three instances of negligence on the United Hospital authority’s part.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan division) Sudip Kumar Chakroborty was speaking to Dhaka Tribune on the matter on Thursday.
He said the three-member probe committee submitted the probe report to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner’s office on Wednesday.
The report noted that the corona unit at the hospital was made of combustible materials. There were no proper fire safety measures. No activities were seen on the part of the hospital authority to rescue the patients from the burning Covid-19 unit,” the DMP DC said.
“Our probe committee prepared the report after visiting the scene of the fire and also spoke to 38 hospital staffers who were on duty on the day of the fire,” he added.
When asked about the case filed by a victim’s family at Gulshan police station, the DC said the investigation would scrutinize the allegations made in the case. Additionally, the fire service investigation report would be taken into consideration in the investigation.
Statements of the victims’ relatives, and those who were present during the fire would also be taken into consideration for purposes of the investigation, Sudip Chakroborty added.
