2 senior Dhaka South City officials sacked for graft

On the first day of joining office, the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has sacked two top officials of the corporation on allegations of corruption.

They are Deputy Chief Revenue Officer Eusuf Ali and Additional Chief Engineer Md. Asaduzzaman, DSCC Secretary Md. Akramuzzaman told Dhaka Tribune.

Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh took charge as the new mayor of DSCC on Saturday and attended office for the first time on Sunday. In the evening, he issued the dismissal orders.

“I have been informed that the termination order was issued in the public interest,” said Eusuf Ali, one of the sacked officials.

Claiming that he did not receive any official letter, Eusuf said: “I don’t know the actual cause as I did not receive a show cause letter.”

Concerned DSCC officials said both fired officers have engaged in undocumented expenditure using their power, being ‘much closer’ to  outgoing mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon.
