Eight mobile courts of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Sunday conducted drive in as many areas to find out and destroy mosquito breeding grounds, ahead of the dengue season that is looming amid a novel coronavirus pandemic.
The mobile courts that conducted drives in eight areas or regions of DNCC consisted executive magistrates and concerned city corporation officials, reports BSS citing a DNCC press release.
During the drives, several house owners were fined and notices were served upon them as Aedes breeding grounds were found inside their houses or on the premises.
The mobile courts also made the city dwellers aware of mosquito menace.
Last week, the DNCC had issued a circular saying it would conduct mobile court drives in city establishments from Sunday to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
If accumulated water where mosquito may breed is found in any establishment, its owner would be fined, the circular said, affirming it has been continuing different activities to control mosquito-borne diseases.
The circular also mentioned that due to the recent rainfall water may accumulate on rooftops, vases inside tyres, abandoned and under construction buildings and the owners were requested to clear up the water to prevent mosquito breeding.
