The wife of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has committed suicide, according to police. Family however claims otherwise.
ASI Nazrul Islam Robin’s wife Afrin Akter Munni was found hung at a rented house of Adabor on Monday afternoon, said Adabor police station OC Kazi Shahiduzzaman.
”The dead body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, but primarily we are guessing she committed suicide,” he said, while talking to Dhaka Tribune.
However, the deceased’s uncle, Mozibur Rahman blamed the ASI for killing her, as Munni came to know about his extra-marital relationship that was going on for the last two years.
She was also assaulted physically and mentally.
“This is not suicide,” he said, adding: “After Munni came to know about it [the affair], her life got perilous and he increased the torture for the last one month.
“For the last four to five days, she was threatened that he would kill her. Even her family was threatened [by the ASI],” he said.
Mozibur claimed that four to five days ago, the ASI told her family to take Munni home (Noakhali) for some refreshment and send Tk8,000 through Bkash for hiring an ambulance during the lockdown.
“Calling yesterday (Monday) noon, he said that he would send her to her parents’ with another person. Both of their phones were found switched off after that.
“Calling in the evening, he told us to take the dead body as she had committed suicide,” he said adding: “After that the OC has also informed us to take the deceased’s body.
“The death threat can be found if his call list is checked,” Mozibur claimed.
The ASI Nazrul, working at Adabor police station, said his wife committed suicide as she was enduring “mental unrest” due to one of their two children suffering from illness.
“My wife told me that the baby got infected with coronavirus and I disagreed as the Shishu Hospital authority treated the baby,” said ASI Nazrul.
“There were problems going on between us for the last few days regarding this. She told me, ‘you will kill the child without getting it treated at a big hospital.’ She was going through metal unrest because of this,” he added.
