Police have arrested a man on charges of raping a child in Kadamtali area using a pencil sketch prepared by an artist.
The accused Tutul, 20, is a resident of Mugda area, said Inspector Kamruzzaman of Kadamtali police station.
According to the police, Tutul raped the child on the evening of April 25 in the Muradnagar area and fled. Police later used the sketch and arrested him on Friday.
Following a case lodged by the victim’s family, police collected CCTV footage from 16 houses in the vicinity of the rape scene.
Video footage showed a youth holding the girl's hand while walking down the street, but he could not be identified as he was wearing a mask.
Later, an artist drew a sketch of the suspect and 100 copies of that sketch were made into posters.
After putting up the posters in the area, a person called police and confirmed the identity of the young man, Inspector Kamruzzaman said.
Tutul admitted his crime, he added.
