Coronavirus: RAB conducts drives against testing kit hoarders

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted drives against coronavirus kit hoarders at Rajarbag and several other areas in the capital.

The drives, which included a mobile court, took place around 12:30pm on Tuesday, confirmed Major Imad Uddin Laskar, Company Commander (CPC-2) of RAB-3.

Tipped off, the RAB team carried out a drive in the Shahidbag area in Rajarbag, recovering 300 coronavirus testing kits from a house, he said.

Mobile court fined three culprits a total of Tk200,000.

Imad Uddin Laskar observed that if kits were forbidden to be imported privately, then kits imported earlier from China would continue to be hoarded illegally.

“Our operation is on-going,” he added.

Health authorities in Bangladesh have received criticism from various quarters for conducting tests at very low rates, part of which is attributed to lack of testing kits.

Covid-19 has so far infected 3,382 people in and killed 110 people in Bangladesh.
