1 soldier killed, 21 injured as army truck crashes in Dhaka

A soldier has been killed and 21 others have been injured after an army truck, trying to save a person riding bicycle on the wrong lane, lost control and ran into a road divider in Dhaka city.

The incident took place near the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Mohammadpur around 8am on Thursday.

The deceased, Prince, was a sainik at the Bangladesh Army, said a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) in this regard.

A total of 21 soldiers were injured in the accident and they are currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH), added the statement.

Contacted, Sher-Bangla Nagar Police Station in-charge Jan Alam Munshi and Mohammadpur police station in-charge Abdul Latif confirmed the incident.

“Several army personnel, injured in the accident, were rushed to nearby hospitals,” he added.
