RAB cracks down on coronavirus price gouging

In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has slapped Tk42.50 lakh in fines against a number of shopkeepers for overcharging for commodities at a kitchen market in the capital.

RAB also sent 6 people to jail.

The drive was conducted at Shyambazar, one of the oldest and largest kitchen markets in Dhaka.

RAB Executive Magistrate Md Sarwar Alam conducted the daylong raid starting at 8am on Sunday.

"They were selling onions at Tk65, potatoes at Tk22, and garlic at Tk90 per kg” he said.
