A woman named Sonia,22, died mysteriously while being taken to hospital after she was spotted walking in a state of confusion in Shantinagar of Dhaka on Monday.
Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique said local residents found the girl around 6:15am on Monday and called her parents.
“Her parents were taking her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital when she died,” he said.
“The girl was a drug addict and led an unruly life. Her whereabouts were always uncertain. She would stay at friends’ houses most of the time.”
According to the police, she went missing after she left her house on February 21.
“She was very thin and would not weigh over 30kg. I suspect she might have died from drug abuse,” said Abu Bakar Siddique.
Sonia, the young woman, had got married in 2015 but was later divorced. She leaves a 5-year-old daughter behind.
