Attack on journalist: 4 more arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion-2 (RAB-2) arrested four more people in connection with the attack on journalist Mostafizur Rahman Sumon during Dhaka City Corporation polls on February 1.

The arrestees are- Alauddin, 22, Masud Mian, 19, Rasel Hawlader, 34, and Jahirul Islam alias Apu Mia, 24.

Confirming the matter, Assistant Director of RAB (legal and media wing) and senior ASP Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan said they were arrested from different parts of Dhaka, on Saturday, reports BSS.

Among the arrestees, Apu Mian is brother-in-law of the councillor of Ward No. 34 of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Sheikh Mohammed Hossain Kokhon, he said.

The total number of arrestees now stands at five as police, earlier on Wednesday night, detained Ismail Hossain over the incident from Rayerbazar area in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Saeed sent Ismail to jail as police produced him before the court after end of his one day remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury on February 6, placed Ismail on one-day remand.

On February 1, online portal Agami News reporter Mostafizur Rahman Sumon was badly injured when he was attacked by the supporters of the councillor candidate of the DNCC’s Ward No. 34 Sheikh Mohammed Hossain Kokhon at the Zafrabad High School centre in Mohammadpur around 11am.
