Dhaka city elections: PM to cast vote at Dhaka City College

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will cast her vote in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls at the Dhaka City College centre in Dhaka.

"The prime minister will cast her vote at the Dhaka City College centre in Dhanmondi around 8am on Saturday," Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said on Friday.

Polling to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held from 8am to 4pm without any break to elect mayors and councillors, reports UNB.

Awami League mayoral candidate for DSCC, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, will cast his vote at Dr Malika College in Dhanmondi.

The party's mayoral candidate in the north, Atiqul Islam, will cast his vote at Nawab Habibullah Model School and College in Uttara Model Town area.

BNP's DSCC mayoral candidate Ishraque Hossain will cast his vote at Shahid Shahjahan Government Primary School in Gopibag area. Its DNCC mayoral candidate Tabith Awal will exercise his franchise at Manarat Dhaka International School and College in Gulshan area.

Thirteen aspirants -- six in Dhaka north and seven in the south -- are vying for the posts of mayor.

The entire election will be held using electronic voting machines (EVMs) instead of traditional ballot papers and two army personnel will be present at every polling station to safeguard the voting machines.

Some 5.45 million voters in the two city corporations will have the opportunity to exercise their franchise.

The last elections to the city corporations were held on April 28, 2015.
