Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said both Dhaka city elections will be peaceful, fair, transparent, and acceptable.
"There is no doubt about it," the CEC told reporters on Friday evening after a meeting with other election commissioners at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.
He said the elections to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held in a festive mood on Saturday.
Besides, Bangladeshis who are working in different embassies will be considered as local observers when they come to observe the elections, he said.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has finished all its preparation to hold the polls, the CEC said.
After casting vote, no one should stay nearby or move around the polling centres without any specific reason, he said.
No gathering is also allowed inside or outside the polling stations, he continued.
The CEC assured that voters would get security till they return home while polling agents would also be ensured safety at the centres.
As a voter has to be present physically at the polling station to cast vote through EVM (electronic voting machine), there is no scope for fraud or irregularities here, he said.
"Once, vote would be cast through ballot papers though there was no presence of voters. Now, it is not possible as EVMs will deter such irregularities."
When asked about the BNP's allegation about the absence of level-playing field in the election, the CEC said: "I left the matter to the media. They [BNP] did everything including door-to-door election campaigns and seeking votes.
"[If this is so] I cannot understand where the level-playing field is absent?"
Earlier on the day, in another event, the CEC said political parties had always a lack of confidence in the Election Commission (EC).
"I have never seen political parties to have confidence in the commission in this country."
The CEC made the comment while talking to reporters at Dhaka Residential Model School and College, where polling materials including EVMs were being distributed to the respective presiding officers of the voting centres.
"The confidence of political parties in the Election Commission depends on their mentality. We never held any biased election, and will not do it in future also."
The confidence will return this time through the Dhaka city polls, he hoped.
He, however, urged all voters to go to the polling centres, and cast their votes.
"There will be good voting in EVMs," he said, adding that all concerned, including presiding officers, have been given adequate training on EVMs.
